Announcing a Educational Portal Dedicated to Providing Distance Learning Opportunities to K-12 Students
We are pleased to announce the launch date for our upcoming Educational Portal dedicated to providing distance learning opportunities to all K-12 students. Part of our community service initiatives, this educational portal includes numerous tools needed for creating a fully customized virtual learning environment -a virtual school/classroom of your own. The (revised) target launch date for this project is March 1, 2008.
Our upcoming eDistance Learning Educational Portal is being designed to be a full-featured self service virtual learning center. Read on for a brief enumeration of some of the features we are integrating in our upcoming release:
Core Functionalities:
- Online working space for the production of discipline-specific teaching modules.
- Private work space for each student.
- Enabling discipline communities to share teaching and learning resources using web-based materials
- Using and evaluating digital learning materials in virtual class rooms
- Promote discussions among shared educational content authors, teachers.
- Fully secure distance learning environment.
A short list of modules included:
- Quiz:
- Supports single-answer, multiple-answer, questions
- Supports tutor-graded extended text questions.
- Supports Related questions to be grouped into "Single Unit" question groups.
- All questions displayed on a single page or on multiple pages.
- Self-assessment tests provide instant feedback
- Allow one to take a Self-Assessment test multiple times.
- Fully internationalized. To start with we would support English, German, French, and Slovenian messages. We plan on enabling a total of 39 other languages over time.
- Assignments:
Electronic Assessment allows students to submit their solutions via the Web at any time during the submission period and receive immediate feedback.
- Peer Review Assignments:
Designed to allow teachers to create peer review assignments for which the students upload their submissions for review by their peers.
- Lectures, Seminars:
Virtual Lecture is a content type that allows teachers to create, and manage lectures, seminars and other courses. A "Virtual Lecture" encapsulates all course-related information. For example, it would contain all course-related materials such as presentation slides, exercises, tests, handouts, and/or reading lists. This component is also fully internationalized.
- Exams:
Designed to provide an effective way to administer written examinations online, and have a computer-supported correction phase -optionally.
- Faculty/Staff Directory:
Faculty/Staff Directory allows one to create and organize personnel directories within your "virtual educational institution."
- Study Guide :
Includes a list of items, to be used for rating knowledge acquired by the students during the course of study. Also allows teachers to take short notes for each line item.
- Teaching Schedule :
Includes information about courses and times offered, provides different views of the teaching schedule.
As you may see from only a few features we have listed above, this distance learning portal is designed to empower both -the teachers and students -with many state of the art web-enabled technologies designed to make education truly portable.
